Cloudy with a Chance of Podcast: Learning about Snowpack

Cloudy with a Chance of Podcast is back with another season! Chief Meteorologist McCall Vrydaghs and Meteorologist Kirstie Zontini have returned after taking the year off following Kirstie’s jaw surgery. The two were thrilled to join together to bring in new guests and touch on all topics in the weather and science world.

This episode is the first in a series that looks deeper into our changing climate. Some impacts to our earth warming are obvious, but others are not. McCall and Kirstie talk with Dr. Andrew Schwartz of the Central Sierra Snow Laboratory at UC Berkeley. Dr. Schwartz is the lead scientist and station manager at the snow laboratory.

His research interests include developing a better understanding of snowfall and snowpack physical processes, and the impact of climate change on those processes. Dr. Schwartz also explained more research he has done which looks at the impacts of wildfire and rain-on-snow events on snowpack energy balance and water storage. In this episode you’ll learn why analyzing and documenting these changes will help us to better understand the effects it’s having on our lives and to prepare for the future.
