UD alumni team, The Red Scare, practices for upcoming TBT at UD Arena

DAYTON — The University of Dayton alumni team, The Red Scare, held a public practice Saturday at the UD Arena in advance of its first game in the The Basketball Tournament (TBT).

The team signed autographs for fans following the workout.

The Red Scare is made up former University of Dayton men’s basketball players including Darrell Davis, Scoochie Smith, Jordan Siebert, Ryan Mikesell and Trey Landers.

Red Scare general manager, head coach and former Flyer walk-on Joey Gruden thanked the fans for attending the practice.

“It really means a lot for us to come back to this court to this community to play again,” he said to fans.

Former UD point guard Scoochie Smith also spoke to the crowd.

“We really appreciate the support,” he said. “Hope everyone is here tomorrow (Sunday).”

Four games will be held Sunday at the UD Arena.

The Dayton Regional of TBT begins Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Money Team playing Athletics Miami. The Red Scare’s first game follows around 3 p.m. against Citi Team.

The evening games will be another doubleheader starting at 7 p.m. The first game features Men of Mackey against Mid-American Unity and the night cap features Golden Eagles playing Ohio 1804.

The regional semifinals will be held Tuesday, July 26, and the regional championship is Wednesday night, July 27, at 8 p.m.

The regional winner advances to the TBT Championship Week which will be held at the UD Arena July 28-August 2.
