University of Dayton names Wittenberg coach Tamika Williams-Jeter as new Women’s Hoops coach

DAYTON — The University of Dayton has announced that Tamika Williams-Jeter will be the next head women’s basketball coach. She coached at Wittenberg last season and went 18-8 overall. Williams-Jeter replaces Shauna Green who left Dayton to take the head coaching job at Illinois.

Williams-Jeter played high school basketball here in Dayton at Chaminade-Julienne and was the number one recruit in the nation and two-time Ohio Player of the Year leading C.J. to their first ever State Final Four appearance.

She went to UConn as part of the number one recruiting class in the nation in 1998, which included Sue Bird, Swin Cash and Asjha Jones. She was named Big East Rookie of the Year in 1999 and a member of two national championship teams, 2000 and 2002.

Williams-Jeter was selected sixth overall in the WNBA draft by Minnesota and retired in 2009. She has served as an assistant coach at Kansas, Penn State and Ohio State. In her only season at Wittenberg, the Tigers won an NCAC Tournament Championship and made their first NCAA Division III Tournament appearance since 2015.

Dayton went 26-6 last season with a win over DePaul in the NCAA Tournament and has made the postseason in 15 straight seasons.
