COLUMBUS — Standout Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields will forgo his remaining eligibility and enter his name into the NFL Draft, Fields said in message posted to his social media pages.

Fields became the latest Buckeye to join the 2021 draft class, including former Miamisburg offensive lineman Josh Myers, who announced his decision Friday.

After two standout seasons under center for the Buckeyes, Fields enters the draft as a presumptive top five or top 10 pick in the NFL Draft in late April.

Fields joined the Buckeyes after transferring into to program after his freshman year at Georgia in 2018. He received a waiver and was ruled immediately eligible to play for the Buckeyes in 2019, leading them to a 13-1 record, including a Big Ten championship and Fiesta Bowl berth.

Fields was also a Heisman Trophy finalist after his 2019 season with the Buckeyes.

“My path to The Ohio State University was not a direct one, but I could not have asked for a better final destination,” Fields said in his post to social media.

Fields received near-universal praise from coaches and fans for his role in getting the Big Ten Conference to reverse course and reinstate the 2020 football season, previously cancelled due to COVID-19.

Ohio State went on to another Big Ten championship and Sugar Bowl victory in the pandemic-shortened season. The Buckeyes fell to Alabama in the National Championship game earlier this month to cap a 7-1 season.
