Former Dayton coach Archie Miller named new coach at Rhode Island

KINGSTON, RI — Former University of Dayton men’s basketball coach Archie Miller was named the new head coach at the University of Rhode Island on Monday.

He coached at Dayton for six seasons from 2011-2017 before leaving for Indiana University where he coach for four seasons (2017-2021). Miller went 139-63 at UD, which include an NIT appearance in 2012 and four straight NCAA Tournament appearances from 2014-2017. The Flyers made it to the Elite Eight in 2014 losing to Florida and won two tournament games in 2015 before losing to Oklahoma in the Second Round.

Dayton and Rhode Island are both in the Atlantic 10 conference and have played each other twice in the same basketball season the last seven straight years. UD leads the overall series, lead, 25-18, winning both regular season meetings this past season.
