COVID-19 concerns could impact Ohio State National Championship game against Alabama

COVID-19 concerns are threatening to disrupt Monday’s scheduled 2021 College Football Playoff National Championship presented by AT&T between No. 1 Alabama and No. 3 Ohio State.

According to AL.com, the concerns center around player availability for Ohio State, which has informed “key parties” the team could be without an entire position group due to COVID-19 testing and protocols.

The playoff’s commission remains in contact with both the Southeastern Conference and the Big Ten, and the CFP has already established Jan. 18 in Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium as the makeup date should the national title game be postponed, AL.com reported.

As of early Tuesday evening, no formal changes have been made to the title game’s schedule.

College Football Playoff Executive Director Bill Hancock told ESPN late Tuesday that the game remains on schedule for Jan. 11.

”I can tell you there are no changes,” Hancock told ESPN. “The game is scheduled for January 11th as planned, and we look forward to it.”
