Cleveland Browns HC Stefanski tests positive for COVID-19 ahead of playoff game

CLEVELAND — Cleveland Browns’ Head Coach Kevin Stefanski was among five members of the organization who tested positive for COVID-19 Tuesday, ahead of the team’s first playoff game since 2002.

In addition to Stefanski’s positive test, two other members of the coaching staff and two additional players tested positive Tuesday, the team said in a statement posted to social media.

As a part of the team’s contingency plans, Special Teams Coordinator Mike Priefer was named acting head coach.

The Browns were forced to close their facility again Tuesday, after the team was forced to do so multiple times last week ahead of the week 17 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“The team will continue to consult with the league and medical experts to determine the appropriate next steps as the health and safety of our players, coaches, staff, and the entire community remain our highest priority,” a team spokesperson said in the statement.

Currently, the Browns at scheduled to take on the Steelers Sunday at 8:15 p.m.
