REACTIONS FROM AROUND BASEBALL

“SIMPLY THE BEST,” former Big Red Machine teammate, and fellow Hall-of-Famer Johnny Bench tweeted.

Ex-Red shortstop Barry Larkin also posted on Twitter saying he’ll miss his “Uncle Joe.”

“Fran and I, along with our children, extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Joe Morgan -- the greatest second baseman of all time, a great base runner and hitter, and a gracious and genuinely nice person,” DeWine said in a statement.

“He had a unique ability to explain what was happening on the field to the average fan. He was a master at explaining the “why” of baseball. In both business and charity, even after his playing days were over, he continued to be involved in the Cincinnati-area community.”

Current Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart also took to Twitter, also calling Morgan the greatest second baseman of all time and thanked him for his contributions in the Reds' clubhouse.

Reds pitcher Amir Garrett also thanked Morgan for help through his career.

Our news partners at WCPO-TV talked to Ken Griffey Sr. who called Morgan “a super teammate.”
