Bengals get back on track beating the Jets for first win of the season

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — The Cincinnati Bengals got their first win of the 2022 season Sunday afternoon defeating the New York Jets, 27-12, at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns. The defense held the Jets to four field goals, forced four turnovers and sacked New York quarterback Joe Flacco four times.

The Bengals took the opening kickoff and drove 75-yards on 11 plays, capped by a 12-yard touchdown pass from Burrow to Semaje Perrine to take a 7-0 lead.

New York got field goals of 50 and 40 yards from Greg Zuerlein to trail 7-6, late in the opening quarter.

On the last play of the first quarter, Burrow hit Tyler Boyd for a 56-yard touchdown reception to extend Cincinnati’s lead to 14-6, after one quarter.

The Bengals got a pair of second quarter field goals by Evan McPherson, 22 and 43 yards, go up 20-6.

Zuerlein connected from 52-yards before halftime and Cincinnati led, 20-9, at the break.

In the third quarter, Trey Hendrickson sacked and forced a fumble and Cincinnati recovered at the Jets 24-yard line. Four plays later, Burrow found Ja’Marr Chase for a five-yard touchdown to put the Bengals ahead, 27-9.

Cincinnati held New York to another Zuerlein field goal and led, 27-12, after three.

The Jets drove inside the Bengals’ 20-yard line twice in the fourth quarter but were stopped twice.

The first time was with 10:09 left when Flacco was sacked and fumbled the ball and Cincinnati recovered.

The second came with just over a minute to play when Jessie Bates intercepted Flacco and the Bengals ran out the clock.

Cincinnati improves to 1-2 on the season.

Their next game will be Thursday night when they host Miami at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati.
