Wisconsin couple survives bear attack inside home

MEDFORD, Wis. — A couple successfully fought off a bear that crashed through the window of their Medford, Wisconsin, home on Friday evening.

According to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, an unidentified married couple was attacked when they tried to scare it off their property.

The couple told WSAW that they were trying to scare the bear off their property because it was eating from a nearby bird feeder. When they yelled at the bear, it charged and broke through a window into the home.

Once inside the home, the couple tried to fight off the bear by stabbing it with a kitchen knife. The husband was able to get to a firearm and kill it, according to WQOW.

The unidentified victims suffered numerous bites and injuries, according to a press release obtained by WQOW.

The couple’s children were sleeping in their bedrooms when the bear attacked. They were not injured in the ordeal.

The bear was later identified as an adult female. She had at least one cub with her before she charged the house, according to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office. The cub later ran into the woods.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources took the deceased bear for testing, according to WAOW.
