Ohio State wins Blood Battle competition over Michigan

COLUMBUS — The Ohio State University Marching and Athletic Bands competed against the University of Michigan’s Marching Band in the 41st annual “Blood Battle” competition, according to our news partner WBNS TV in Columbus.

The rival schools competed to donate blood for local patients ahead of The Game.

The Buckeyes collected 1,630 pints of blood to win the “Blood Battle,” WBNS reports.

“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone in Buckeye Nation who rolled up their sleeves for this friendly off-the-field competition,” said Dr. Andrew Thomas, chief clinical officer and interim co-leader at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. “I was honored to do my part to help fill the need for this lifesaving resource.”

The competition is stretched over a four-week period that ended Nov. 23 and it’s the first time Ohio State beat Michigan since 2017, according to WBNS.

“We hope this Blood Battle inspires more people to regularly donate blood to help their community.”

Ohio State held 48 blood drives on campus and exceeded its goal of collecting 1,500 pints. Michigan collected 1,553 pints of blood during its blood drives, WBNS says.
