Fox pulls broadcaster Thom Brennaman from NFL games for using homophobic slur on air

CINCINNATI — UPDATE AT 6:15PM:

Thom Brennaman has been pulled from Fox’s NFL games after he used a homophobic slur during a Wednesday night broadcast.

“FOX Sports is extremely disappointed with Thom Brennaman’s remarks during Wednesday’s Cincinnati Reds telecast,” Fox said in a statement Thursday. “The language used was abhorrent, unacceptable, and not representative of the values of FOX Sports.”

Brennaman has been a part of Fox’s NFL since it started televising the leagure in 1994, according to ESPN.

The Cincinnati Reds have suspended play-by-play broadcaster Thom Brennaman after he used a homophobic slur during a broadcast Wednesday night.

A “hot mic” caught Brennaman off-camera, saying “one of the (expletive) capitals of the world” while the broadcast was still live.

Later during the second game of the doubleheader, Brenneman addressed his comments and apologized before was removed from the broadcast.

“I can’t begin to tell you how deeply sorry I am,” said Brennaman. “I’m very very sorry and I beg you for forgiveness”

The Cincinnati Reds put out this response on Facebook:

Major League Baseball has said its aware of the incident, but did not have an immediate comment.

Fox Sports Ohio, the outlet that carried the Reds’ broadcast, echoed the team’s statement, saying Brennaman’s words were “hateful, offensive, and in no way reflects the values of Fox Sports Ohio.”
