Strong winds cause downed trees, damage to buildings in Darke Co.

GREENVILLE — Strong winds and severe storms caused downed trees, damage to cars and part of a barn in part of the Miami Valley Thursday.

The National Weather Service said radar data suggested that strong straight-line winds were the cause of the damage.

Storms ripped through part of West Branch Farms on Greenville-Palestine Road in Darke County.

Photos show debris all over the farm and damage to the roof of one of the buildings.

Steven Garber, owner of the barn, said some animals were still inside when the damage happened.

No animals or people were injured but the owner said he could hear the destruction as it happened a few feet away.

While he could hear the damage, Garber said he was still surprised at how bad it was.

“This is probably the worst damage I’ve ever had,” Garber told News Center 7′s Kayla McDermott.

Our News Center 7 crew also saw damage in residential neighborhoods where high winds ripped a tree at the roots knocking it onto a car.

The tree only came a few feet from landing on the house itself.

No injuries were reported.
