What districts are requiring masks?

MIAMI VALLEY — As districts have started the 2021-2022 school year, several have transitioned to requiring masks for some students as Ohio continues reporting thousands of new COVID-19 cases each day.

The following districts are requiring masks at least for some students/staff:

• Troy City Schools: School board leaders voted Monday night that on Wednesday, Sept. 15 a district-wide mask mandate will go into effect. Protective face coverings will be required for all students, staff and visitors.
• Mad River Local Schools: All students, staff and visitors in PK-12 will be required to wear masks in all indoor spaces while in their school building. PK-6 students and visitors will not be required to wear masks outdoors during recess or for outdoor class activities. Students who have a medical condition that would prevent them from wearing a mask must provide a note from their doctor to their building principal.
• Huber Heights City Schools: UPDATE Oct. 15: Masks are optional for all students (PK-12), staff, families, and visitors while indoors on school grounds beginning Oct. 16. This includes all indoor district-sponsored events before, during, and after school. Masks are strongly encouraged, but not required in all other situations. The only exception is on school transportation, where masks are required under CDC guidance.
• Springfield City Schools: The district has changed its mask policy to require all students and staff in PK-6 buildings to wear masks. It is strongly recommended that students and staff in 7-12 buildings wear masks, but they are not required.
• Fairborn City Schools: Masks will be required for all students and staff while indoors. “Requiring students and staff to wear masks will eliminate quarantine when exposed to a positive COVID-19 person, keeping students safe and in the classroom. The wearing of masks also protects those students who are not yet eligible to receive the vaccine,” the district said.
• Greeneview Local Schools: Masks will be required for all students and staff in school settings starting Sept. 1. This also applies to extracurriculars when students are not actively engaged. Spectators attending indoor sporting events or extracurricular activities will also be expected to wear a face covering, according to the district.
• Beavercreek City Schools: The district updated its mask mandate Aug. 31. Masks are now required for all PreK-12 students, staff, and visitors inside all district buildings. If you believe your child is eligible for a mask exemption you may send them to school without a mask through Friday, Sept. 3. Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 7 mask exemption forms must be in place for eligible students, according to the school’s website.
• Xenia Community Schools: Effective Monday, August 30, the district will begin requiring masks while indoors for K-5 students in our elementary buildings. Staff in those buildings will not be required to mask, a district spokesperson said.
• Northmont Local Schools: Masks will be required for Pre-K through 12th grade. All district staff will also be wearing masks.
• Centerville City Schools: Beginning Aug. 30, masks will be required for ALL K-12 students, staff members and visitors, regardless of vaccination status, while inside all district facilities.
• Kettering City Schools: Beginning Aug. 30, students will be required to wear masks in the classroom while they are within 3-feet of one another. “What we’re trying to do is simply have this mask so that we don’t have to quarantine kids,” Superintendent Scott Inskeep said.
• Oakwood City Schools: Masks will be required for students from grades K-6 and staff working with those students. Masks will not be required for students in grades 7-12 but they will be highly recommended.
• Dayton Public Schools: Masks are required for all students and staff.
• Jefferson Twp. Public Schools: All staff and students are required to wear masks while in all district buildings.
• Springboro City Schools: Masks will be required indoors for all students, staff, and visitors in grades PreK-6. Masks are strongly recommended, but not required, for students, staff and visitors in grades 7-12.
• Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Local Schools: Masks will be required for grades K-6 beginning Sept. 3. Staff and teachers in those grades also will be wearing masks. Visitors will be asked to where masks in those buildings as well. The district will have exemptions for students with disabilities or those with a documented medical condition that prevents them from wearing masks.
• West Carrollton City Schools: Masks will be required for all students and staff, grades PreK-12, in all of the district’s building buildings, all school transportation and during any indoor activity effective Sept. 2.
• Bellefontaine City Schools: All students, teachers, employees and visitors at Bellefontaine Middle School must wear a mask until further notice.
• Miamisburg City Schools: Effective Monday, September 13, 2021, all Pre-K12 staff, students, volunteers, and visitors will be required to wear face masks when they are in a building or riding on district transportation.
