Hauntfest returns after last year’s cancellation

DAYTON — Hauntfest is back after being cancelled due to COVID-19 and the poor weather did not keep people from heading to Fifth St. to celebrate Halloween.

Miami Valley residents were excited for Haunfest to return. Some were excited to experience it for the first time.

Longtime Hauntfest attendees, John and Heather Montgomery, were happy to return to the event after the pandemic shut the world down.

“Its nice to be part of the community again,” Heather Montgomery said.

In order to ensure to people’s safety, streets were blocked off, IDs were checked and no weapons, real or fake, were allowed.

“We do that for everybody’s safety,” Lt. James Mullins, Dayton Police Department, said about the ban on all weapons.

Hauntfest event planner, Carolyn Desjardin, told News Center 7′s Kayla McDermott that it felt good to have the event return and highlight the creativity in Dayton.

“Seeing the costumes out, seeing everyone having a good time, I think that’s what everyone was missing,” Desjardin said.
