Governors DeWine, Whitmer place bet on Ohio State-Michigan game

COLUMBUS — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer are placing a friendly wager ahead of Saturday’s rivalry football game between the Ohio State University and the University of Michigan.

A lot is on the line during the 117th installment of “The Game.” The winner will punch their ticket to the Big 10 Championship game. Additionally, the Buckeyes are 10-1 this season and currently hold the No. 2 spot in the College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings, while the Wolverines, also 10-1, are right on the outside of the CFP at No. 5.

In a statement, DeWine said he was “proud” to place a friendly bet with Whitmer.

“I am proud to engage in this friendly bet, highlighting some of Fran and my favorite treats from across the Buckeye State,” DeWine said in a statement.

Both governors wagered sweets and treats made in their respective states.

DeWine wager included sweets such as cream puffs from Schmidt’s in Columbus, black raspberry chip ice cream from Graeter’s in Cincinnati, chocolate-covered pretzels from Malley’s in Cleveland and buckeye candies from Marsha’s Homemade Buckeyes in Perrysburg.
