UPDATE: Deputies ID victim of deadly head-on crash in Champaign Co.

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY — An Urbana woman was killed in a crash in Champaign County Tuesday morning.

The crash happened on Clark Road near state Route 296 around 10:30 a.m., deputies said in a media release.

A preliminary investigation found a 2018 Hyundai car, driven by Lisa Courter, 57, of Urbana was traveling north when it crossed the centerline.

Courter’s car crashed head-on into a 2019 Buick SUV, which caused the SUV to overturn.

The driver of the Buick was trapped in their car and was freed by fire crews before being taken to an area hospital.

Courter was pulled from her car, which was on fire, by bystanders.

Live-saving measures were attempted but Courter was pronounced dead on the scene.

The condition of the person taken to the hospital is not known.

The crash remains under investigation.
