Dayton Public Schools eases mask guidelines as cases lower

DAYTON — Dayton Public Schools will move from masks mandated to masks strongly recommended starting March 28.

DPS said the decision comes after the Center for Disease Control and Public Health Department have said COVID-19 cases are at an all-time low.

The district said in a statement that case numbers in their schools and zip codes their schools serve are “very low”.

The district said they will not tolerate bullying about someone’s choice whether or not to wear a mask.

“All students and school personnel are strongly encouraged to continue to wear masks. Those who choose to continue wearing masks, as well as those who choose not to wear a mask, will be expected to respect the choice of others. The district will not tolerate any type of bullying or intimidation as it relates to a person’s choice to mask or not,” DPS said in the statement.

DPS said they will continue to monitor COVID cases and if cases increase, masks will be mandated again.
