“The number of positive tests has continued to trend in an upward direction over the last seven days,” said Warde Manuel, U-M’s Donald R. Shepherd Director of Athletics. “We have not been cleared to participate in practice at this time. Unfortunately, we will not be able to field a team due to COVID-19 positives and the associated quarantining required of close-contact individuals.

Michigan said the decision was made after consulting with medical experts, health department officials and university administration.

The cancellation means Ohio State would be ineligible for the Big Ten Championship under the rules currently in place, which requires teams to have played six games to be eligible.

Ohio State University President Kristina Johnson tweeted the following statement.

Ohio State is 5-0 on the season with its most recent victory coming against Michigan State.
