In both previous AFC Championship games the Bengals advanced to play the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl but lost both times. A Super Bowl XVI and XXIII rematch is still in the cards, with the 49ers also in the NFC Championship game against the Los Angeles Rams.

For Kansas City, this is the team’s fourth straight AFC title game, all of which have been played on the team’s home field. The Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills Sunday in a thrilling overtime finish 42-36.

Cincinnati and Kansas City met in the regular season just three weeks ago at Paul Brown Stadium. The Bengals won with a walk-off field goal as time expired 34-31.

The Chiefs have been the AFC representative in the Super Bowl the last two seasons, winning Super Bowl LVI over the 49ers in 2020. The Chiefs lost last year in Super Bowl LV to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Bengals fans are still relishing the historic win over the Tennessee Titans on Jan. 22.
