Dog expected to recover after shot by deputies during domestic violence call; 1 hospitalized

HARRISON TOWNSHIP — UPDATE @ 5:30 P.M.

Deputies shot a dog while on the scene of a domestic violence incident in Montgomery County on Saturday.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s dispatchers received a 911 call at 12:30 p.m. from a home on Townhouse Court. Two people could be heard arguing in the background, according to a Montgomery County Sheriff’s spokesperson.

A man said that a woman had a knife and was stabbing him. A woman claimed that the man “put his hands” on her and said she would “kill him.”

The man also claimed that the woman was holding a knife to his throat, the spokesperson said.

When a deputy arrived, they were attacked by a dog that left the residence. The deputy shot the dog, but the dog ran away. Nobody was injured in the shooting.

An officer with the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center (ARC) located the dog and took it into custody. The dog is expected to recover, the spokesperson stated.

Sheriff’s deputies have not found the man. Medics transported the woman to a local hospital.

A search warrant was executed on the home because the woman did not allow deputies to investigate or collect evidence, the spokesperson said.

The incident remains under investigation.
