WPAFB downgrades health protection level; Here’s what it means

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is dropping its COVID-19 situation to HPCON Charlie, which is a step below HPCON Delta.

The base has been at HPCON Delta since Jan. 7, after hospitalizations and COVID-19 cases soared primarily from COVID-19 omicron cases, according to health officials.

Over the last month, hospitalizations across the state have plummeted from a peak of 6,749 hospitalizations statewide on Jan. 10 to 2,669 statewide on Thursday afternoon.

Under HPCON Charlie there is still substantial spread of COVID-19 and base workers are asked to limit meetings and other social gatherings, according to the Department of Defense.

A Public Health Emergency remains at the base with facility occupancy status now capped at less than 25 percent of marked occupancy.
