News Center 7′s Brandon Lewis says Public Health Dayton and Montgomery County will start offering the bivalent Covid-19 vaccine boosters starting next week.

The boosters are designed to give people broad protection against Covid-19, including better protection against the Omicron Variant.

The Moderna bivalent booster is available for people ages 18 and older while Pfizer will offered for those 12-years and older.

Lewis says to be eligible, two months need to have passed since your last Covid vaccine.

So far, News Center 7 has learned health departments in Montgomery, Clark, Greene, Miami, and Champaign Counties have their boosters.

These shots are described as the newest tool in fighting Covid, according to Chris Cook, the assistant health commissioner for Clark County.

“It’s something that we’re going to continue to have to live with and really keep our guard up as we progress through potentially new variants,” he said. “One of the most important tools that we have here is available to us now.”

>>Montgomery County drops to ‘medium’ COVID community level

Lewis says the five counties with the boosters have either medium or low Covid-19 community levels, according to the CDC.

That compares to earlier in the summer when a majority of the Miami Valley was in the high category because of the rising number of Covid cases.
